In a few short days our family will be traveling to the lovely Aruba for a few weeks. We are staying at the Divi Resorts and it looks like a very relaxing place! It is just the vacation we all need before the wedding season starts. I will be available by email during this time

Travel

Chris and I will begin this new year traveling to the Music City for the Digital Wedding Forum convention and the Imaging USA expo. Education is a very important part of owning a photography studio and we take the time and resources to make sure we are staying current on all the trends for 2010. We will also be traveling to Vegas (baby) for the annual Wedding and Portrait Photographers convention and attending Inspire Boston. Lots of learning is going on in this off season so we can be the best we can be this year. Chris is also in the process of building a super cool photobooth that will be available for all 2010 weddings and events, photos to come. picture-4.jpg

Celebration of Reading

We have just returned from a trip to Washington, DC and Bethesda, MD where we photographed an engagement session( blog post later) and The Celebration of Reading. The Celebration of Reading is an annual event to raise money for the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation. The authors this year included Kelly Corrigan, Art Smith, Brad Thor, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Jeff Kinney and Coach Mike Krzyzewski. The event took place at The Music Center at Stratmore which was a wonderful venue for this evening. The event was hosted by Doro and Tricia Koch along with President George Bush and first lady Barbara Bush. We enjoyed not only photographing the event, but also listening to and getting to meet all the wonderful authors. Here are a few photos, you can view the slideshow here.

Paragliding in Switzerland

Paragliding was not something I ever thought I would do. When we were arrived in Murren we noticed lots of paragliders in the sky and we even watched a few of them take off, basically running off the side of a huge mountain. It looked so peaceful to be sailing above the ground and it looked quiet and safe. So I talked myself into trying something new and I took the plunge and did the jump. It was nice to see the ground in a new way, but for me it was very scary. We hit some turbulence and I was reminded of how much I dislike flying. It was a long 20 minutes down for me, but I am glad I did it. I think it is important to try new things to keep you young at heart. I have a video that Joe, the guide took in which I look absolutely petrified! Here are a few of the shots Chris took from the ground and a couple that Joe took in the air.

Switzerland

We are off to see the Matterhorn in Switzerland, travel on Euro-Rail, sleep in an igloo(Zermatt) and visit the town of Murren. We hope there is a lot of snow in the Alps and we come back in the same condition we are leaving in(no broken bones). We will return to Maine and business March 27th. Here is a photo I got from the Wikipedia site:

Philadelphia Photo Assignment

Chris and I are in Philadelphia to photograph the National Constitution Center’s Liberty Award winner, Mikhail Gorbachev along with President George Bush who will be presenting the award. It is a large gala with many folks invited so we asked Emilie Sommer to come along and help us. We could not resist having a little fun while in town so Chris snapped this of Em and I enjoying a beverage on Market Street. More images to come later.em.jpg

Mallory Square Sunset Celebration in Key West

Every evening at Mallory Square in Key West there is a sunset celebration. Many entertainers set up their space to wow the crowd with their many acts of wonder. We saw the “stick man” who juggled items using oars and in this image of him he is juggling a baseball bat above someone’s head. There were tightrope walkers, unicyclists, jugglers and many more. It was such a great sight to see as the sun goes down into the water in the evening.  juggler sunseten.jpgsunsetenjpg.jpgsunsetentertain.jpg

CA Smith Photography heads to Vegas Baby!

So we are off to Vegas tonight to catch a Dave Matthews Band concert at the MGM tomorrow! Well, not only that we are traveling to Vegas to participate in the Wedding and Portrait Professionals International trade show and also attend Digital Wedding Forum’s yearly convention. Last year we were able to learn about many new products and techniques and this year should be no different!
In preparation for the big trip, I had a new haircut yesterday. What do you think?
Cheers,
Cyndi
